I would personally recommend playing on the Wii U, as that version makes excellent use of the console's gamepad to add tension. If you're in search of a more traditional, even old-school approach to Zombie horror, look no further than Zombi, an intensely atmospheric and clever callback to Ubisoft's 1986 original and the international title for 1978's Dawn of the Dead. State of Decay 2 is a zombie survival game that makes you think about how to tackle each problem, and think even more about how your decisions might impact the trajectory of the story. What State of Decay 2 lacks in varied, creative combat, it makes up for with rewarding systems, management progression, thoughtful decision-making, and a narrative with an impactful sense of reward and consequence. And it's all about as hard as it sounds, so turn to State of Decay 2 when your management skills need a fine-tuning after the mindless slaughter of Dying Light. Here, you'll develop settlements, build and take care of communities, and make difficult choices to maintain your favourable position at the top of the food chain - not to mention survive against hordes of zombies with gnashing, undead teeth. State of Decay 2 might be the closest thing to actually surviving in a zombie apocalypse without introducing the T-virus in real life. Platform(s): PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S Assembling a team made up of the right variety of classes - of which there are 10 - could make the difference between climbing atop a mountain of your defeated enemies in triumph, and being swallowed by them. It doesn't deal solely in chaos though, as Killing Floor 2 also requires good teamwork. Killing Floor 2 is a co-op horde shooter that takes the most crowded, frenzied bloodbaths of Dying Light 2 and makes an entire game out of them, except here you're clearing through waves of mutant, failed science experiments called "specimens" instead of traditional zombies - in short, Killing Floor 2 is metal as hell. And with a name like Killing Floor, you can safely bet you'll come out the other side bloodied, a dripping sawblade bolted to your helmet, and a gleeful grin spread across your face. Keeping Dead Island 2’s feet on the ground and keeping it simple might be the best way to move on from its difficult past.”ĭead Island 2 is bound for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X next year.Dying Light isn't a game that always demands calculated strategy, but Killing Floor 2 downright discourages planning in favour of fervorous, blood-splattered slaughter. But maybe that’s the point, and maybe it’s no bad thing. Polygon played the latest version of Dead Island 2 this summer, and in our preview of the game, wrote, “It’s a far cry from the exhilarating, freewheeling, open-world traversal of Dying Light 2. Sumo, too, was ditched and in 2019, Deep Silver announced that development had been switched to an internal team: Homefront : The Revolution developer Dambuster Studios. studio Sumo Digital ( LittleBigPlanet 3, Crackdown 3) took over, and worked on Dead Island 2 in silence for two to three years. In 2015, Yager was dropped by Deep Silver, apparently over creative differences. After Techland, creator of the original Dead Island and its stand-alone expansion Riptide, decided to follow its own path with the Dying Light series, Deep Silver tapped Yager ( Spec Ops : The Line) to develop a sequel. It has taken Deep Silver a decade and three developers to get here. Next month, Dambuster promises to release “an exciting new trailer and gameplay” at a Dead Island 2 showcase scheduled for Dec. For those of you who’ve been waiting for years, thank you for hanging in there with us.”ĭead Island 2’s new release date is April 28, 2023. “The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now we’re going to take the time we need to make sure we can launch a game we’re proud to launch. “The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we are as disappointed as you undoubtedly are,” the publisher and developer said in a statement posted to Twitter. Publisher Deep Silver and developer Dambuster Studios announced the zombie game’s latest delay on Thursday, acknowledging the black humor of Dead Island 2’s latest - and hopefully final - setback. The long-in-development Dead Island 2, originally announced in 2014 for a release the following year, and changing development studios twice since then, has been delayed once more.
